1-day training by Cost Accountants of India–Southern Region



The Institute of Cost Accountants of India–Southern Region is organising a one-day training programme on the salient features of the Companies Act, 2013, on Wednesday. Around 70 officers from State PSUs, statutory boards and the finance department will participate in the programme.

The programme will be inaugurated at 10 a.m.

 Several EMU trains will be cancelled or terminated at various points on February 25 and 27, due to a power block between Chennai Central railway station and Gundur section. Trains will be rescheduled.
    The trains that will be fully cancelled are Sulurpeta-MMC (No. 42406) leaving at 9.45am, Gummidipundi-MMC (No. 42020) leaving at 10.50am, and Gummudipundi- MMC (No. 42022) leaving at 11.20 am.
    Trains that will end at Ponneri are MMC-Gummidipundi (No.42013) leaving at 9.22am, MMC-Sulurpeta (No.42411) leaving at 9.55 am and MMC-Gummidipundi (No. 42015) at 10.25am. Train No.57240 Bitragunta-Chennai Central will be partially cancelled between Gummidipundi to Central.

 More than 6,000 school students took part in a marathon organised by the education department of Chennai Corporation to mark the 66th birthday of chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Saturday. The run was organised at 66 locations. Mayor Saidai Duraisamy flagged off the run at Marina.

 The government museum is organising an exhibition ‘Subrahmanya’ from February 24 to March 9 in the main building of the museum. Subrahmanya, a Hindu deity, is especially popular among Tamil Hindus and is worshipped in areas with Tamil influences including Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Mauritius.

KK Nagar to get cycle tracks

KK Nagar to get cycle tracks



Chennai corporation mayor Saidai S Duraisamy on Saturday held a public hearing on creation of cycle tracks in KK Nagar. Private architecture firms also participated in the hearing. A cycling network, wide footpaths and one-way traffic have been proposed in the area. Residents have agreed to the changes and also offered suggestions to the design. Three main schools are located in the area and traffic plans have been made to suit students.

Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa announces special Pongal ex gratia to PSU employees



On Friday Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa sanctioned a special Pongal ex gratia to employees of state public sector undertakings and statutory boards.

It has been the practice of the state government to offer special Pongal ex gratia to employees who are not covered under the Payment of Bonus Act, 1965.

Employees belonging to A and B groups, who are in the supervisory cadre, would get Rs 1,000 each, an official statement said.

The chief minister said in respect of C and D group employees of statutory boards, an ad hoc bonus equivalent to 30 days emoluments computed as on March 31, 2013, subject to the upper ceiling of Rs 3,000, would be paid for the financial year 2012-13.

A sum Rs 500 will be paid to pensioners and family pensioners of the statutory boards and state transport undertakings.

"My government's initiative will help PSU employees and their families to celebrate Pongal festival with joy," Jayalalithaa said.
